Game of Thrones: HBO Max Developing More Animated Spinoff Series
----------------------------------------------------------------
The Hollywood Reporter brings word that HBO Max is developing
additional animated projects inspired by the award-winning hit
series Game of Thrones.
It was announced in January that the streamer was developing a
Game of Thrones animated drama and was being led by HBO drama
head Francesca Orsi and her group. HBO Max is now reportedly
working on at least two additional potential animated series,
with one of the projects being set in The Golden Empire of
Yi Ti, a territory that was never seen on the original
live-action series.
Yi Ti is a region in the continent of Essos, near the
south-eastern limits of the known world. According to the
outlet, the society is considered one of the oldest and most
advanced in author George R.R. Martin's fantasy universe. Yi Ti
is inspired by Imperial China, in the same way that Westeros
was inspired by Medieval Europe.
Also in the works in the Game of Thrones franchise includes the
prequel House of the Dragon, which tells the story of House
Targaryen and takes place 300 years before the events of the
original series. The prequel project is expected to debut in
2022.
In May it was announced that another spinoff from writer Amanda
Segel (Helstrom), 10,000 Ships, is in development, with the
prequel series centered around Princess Nymeria and her journey
from Essos to Dorne. Another potential project, 9 Voyages,
comes from Rome creator Bruno Heller, which would follow
Velaryon, played by Steve Toussaint in House of the Dragon.
HBO is also developing a series adaptation of George R.R.
Martin's Tales of Dunk & Egg novellas.
