Roberto Orci Signs on For Galaga Chronicles Animated Series
-----------------------------------------------------------
Galaga may not seem like the most obvious choice to get a Hollywood
adaptation, but this is really happening. Roberto Orci has officially
signed on to executive produce Galaga Chronicles, an animated series
based upon the game.

Via Deadline, Orci will "shape the vast and sprawling Galaga
Chronicles universe" alongside The Nuttery Entertainment. Orci's
previous credits include the Star Trek reboot films, The Amazing
Spider-Man 2, and Transformers. Orci also co-created Fringe and
Sleepy Hollow for Fox. In a statement, Orci said "Galaga is one of
the games I played growing up. I have fond memories of the
quarters and hours upon hours I spent playing the game. I look
forward to working with The Nuttery and to capture that magic in an
exciting new format."

Galaga was released in 1981 as a sequel to Galaxian, and it is one
of the most iconic arcade games of all time. However, there is no
story to speak of within the game itself. Players assume control of
a lone starship pilot as they attempt to slow down an alien invasion
led by by bug-like creatures. It's amazingly fun to play, but
there's nothing deeper to it.

Deadline's report also indicated that Galaga Chronicles will be
animated by ShadowMachine, the company behind Robot Chicken, BoJack
Horseman, and Final Space.

"We couldn't be more stoked to have this level of creativity and
craftsmanship on board our space adventure," added The Nuttery CEO
Magnus Jansson. "Roberto's incredible sense of story and science
fiction mastery and ShadowMachine's excellent animation and design
chops have already elevated the project to the next level. I think
we are sitting on an amazing origin story for Galaga that will not
disappoint fans of the game, or of science fiction in general.

Galaga Chronicles doesn't currently have a home, but it will be
shopped to cable networks and streaming services. The first season
is expected to run for 12 episodes.

I used to play Galaga until my hands bled(*), but I really have no desire
to watch a series about it.

And if I don't, I can't imagine that any under 40s give a rip..

I agree. While I liked the game I can't see how having a show with the
name that's supposedly somehow tied to the game is of any use. There's
nothing in the game that makes this stand out as a possibility for a
good show. If they have a great idea and can make a good show then it
will work even if it is named G8932. Tieing it to Galaga is going to
draw in some viewers but it may make even more stay away.

I note he's leaving Hawai'i 5.1 off his resume these days.

This series will have nothing at all to do with the actual original
game, other than the name and spaceships fighting aliens. Same as the
so-called "Battleship" movie which used the name and a navay
battleship, but otherwise had no connection to the board game at all.

Ever looked at the WP page for "Battleship"? The original board game
was a greedy cash-in on a free game. (Or that's one way to look at it :-).

I agree. While I liked the game I can't see how having a show with the
name that's supposedly somehow tied to the game is of any use. There's
nothing in the game that makes this stand out as a possibility for a
good show.
They aren't trying to make a good show. If they were, they wouldn't have
hired Orci.
I note he's leaving Hawai'i 5.1 off his resume these days.
This series will have nothing at all to do with the actual original
game, other than the name and spaceships fighting aliens. Same as the
so-called "Battleship" movie which used the name and a navy
battleship, but otherwise had no connection to the board game at all.
:-\
But the aliens threw pegs at the ships and they tracked the aliens
with a grid system!  :P
But there are no aliens in the "Battleship" board game ... well, not
until greedy Hasbro tried to cash-in on the ridiculous movie by
releasing a tie-in version of teh board game with aliens.   :-\
Picky, picky, picky.
Ever looked at the WP page for "Battleship"? The original board game
was a greedy cash-in on a free game. (Or that's one way to look at it :-).
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battleship_(game)
Yep, the Hasbro board game comes from the old paper-and-pen based
version. The normal Hasbro version comes in normal, pocket / travel,
and "electronic" versions (the only difference really is that it makes
noises - basically "wheeeee-boom" or "wheeeee-splosh").

There's also numerous computer game versions, as well as some other
board game variations (two I know of are the movie tie-in and a Star
Wars one that I've got).

BUT, if you want a real cash-in exercise, try Monopoly ... there's
literally hundreds of variations of that in just the board game, let
alone going to other formats.

Roberto Orci Signs on For Galaga Chronicles Animated Series
-----------------------------------------------------------
Galaga may not seem like the most obvious choice to get a
Hollywood adaptation, but this is really happening. Roberto
Orci has officially signed on to executive produce Galaga
Chronicles, an animated series based upon the game.
Via Deadline, Orci will "shape the vast and sprawling Galaga
Chronicles universe" alongside The Nuttery Entertainment.
Orci's previous credits include the Star Trek reboot films,
The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and Transformers. Orci also
co-created Fringe and Sleepy Hollow for Fox. In a statement,
Orci said"Galaga is one of the games I played growing up. I
have fond memories of the quarters and hours upon hours I
spent playing the game. I look forward to working with The
Nuttery and to capture that magic in an exciting new
format."
Galaga was released in 1981 as a sequel toalaxian, and it is
one of the most iconic arcade games of all time. However,
there is no story to speak of within the game itself.
Players assume control of a lone starship pilot as they
attempt to slow down an alien invasion led by by bug-like
creatures. It's amazingly fun to play, but there's nothing
deeper to it.
Deadline's report also indicated that Galaga Chronicles will
be animated by ShadowMachine, the company behind Robot
Chicken, BoJack Horseman, and Final Space.
"We couldn't be more stoked to have this level of creativity
and craftsmanship on board our space adventure," added The
Nuttery CEO Magnus Jansson. "Roberto's incredible sense of
story and science fiction mastery and ShadowMachine's
excellent animation and design chops have already elevated
the project to the next level. I think we are sitting on an
amazing origin story for Galaga that will not disappoint
fans of the game, or of science fiction in general.
Galaga Chronicles doesn't currently have a home, but it will
be shopped to cable networks and streaming services. The
first season is expected to run for 12 episodes.

I used to play Galaga until my hands bled(*), but I really
have no desire to watch a series about it.
And if I don't, I can't imagine that any under 40s give a
rip..

(*) Not that I was good at it.
I agree. While I liked the game I can't see how having a show

So, exactly like all movies based on books.

Given the complete and utter lack of a story to the game, why would any
show _need_ to be based on it?
