Yes, it's true! The producers of The Simpsons may have written Apu out in order to appease the Indian community, but Seth MacFarlane has decided to bring the character into the Family Guy fold, saying that the outrage over the character makes him fit right in with the show's blatantly offensive sense of humor. The official explanation is that he has been transferred to the newly opened Quahog Kwik-E-Mart. James L. Brooks and Matt Groening gave their blessing for this move, but since Hank Azaria no longer wishes to perform the character on any show, the wacky pseudo-Indian accent will now be done by Family Guy voice actor Mike Henry.

They're just adding a disclaimer saying that the show contains "outdated cultural depictions".
