Scott Pilgrim vs. the World animated series in talks
----------------------------------------------------
Though a box office disappointment upon release, Edgar Wright's
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World has been one of the most celebrated
graphic novel adaptations of the last decade amongst fans and
critics and though a sequel isn't going to happen, the
co-writer/director has revealed there may be a new avenue for
the material.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly to discuss the film's
10th anniversary, Wright revealed that though a live-action
sequel is definitely not going to happen, he and the source
material's creator Bryan Lee O'Malley have been cooking up
something else.
"There's some plans - and there's nothing official yet - but
there are some plans to revisit the material in an animation
way," Wright said. "We've been talking with Bryan and with
Jared for a while [about]: What if we did something with the
books in anime form? It's being discussed as we speak."
This exciting tidbit comes on the heels of the announcement in
May that the cult classic action comedy would be returning to
theaters to celebrate its anniversary, which was originally
set to hit theaters in August, though said re-release has been
postponed indefinitely due to the global pandemic.
The film starred Michael Cera as Scott Pilgrim, a young man
who falls hard for Mary Elizabeth Winstead's Ramona Flowers.
But to win Ramona's heart, Scott has to face her seven evil
exes, including Lucas Lee (Chris Evans), Todd Ingram (Brandon
Routh), Roxy Richter (Mae Whitman), and Gideon Graves (Jason
Schwartzman). Alison Brie also appears as Scott's evil ex,
Envy Adams, alongside Alison Pill as Kim Pine, Aubrey Plaza
as Julie Powers, Kieran Culkin as Wallace Wells, and Ellen
Wong as Knives Chau.
